Daisuke Anayama Ko-Durama, Black

Daisuke Anayama Ko-Durama, Black

Daisuke Anayama's Daruma sculpture is based on the traditional Japanese Daruma doll used for good luck. This Daruma is created through a unique firing process in which it is buried in a cylindrical ceramic chamber filled with a large amount of rice husks. As the husks burn, they release a high concentration of carbon, resulting in its distinctive deep black surface.

"This Daruma embodies the spirit of ā€œFueki RyÅ«kōā€”the balance between timeless tradition and evolving modernity. Its universal form and the wide black hue of the pottery give it a presence that transcends time while resonating with contemporary aesthetics. By merging traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, I have crafted a piece that conveys quiet strength within stillness." - Daisuke Anayama

Daisuke Anayama lives in Japan creating ceramic works thatĀ explore expressions that connect the past and present, nature and human activities, aiming to bring out essential beauty.Ā
